Pet Burial or Pet Cremation- which do you prefer and why?

Do you bury or cremate your pets that pass away? If you bury them, where are they located (-your home, pet cemetery, etc.) If you cremate them, are they in an urn or are their ashes scattered?

I cremate my larger animals (dogs, cats) and they each have their own personalized urn. I bury the small animals in the yard or garden of my parents’ house.

I prefer to cremate my larger animals just as you do, but I bury their ashes in my yard with a small marker with their name to indicate where they are. It is too difficult and unwiedly to bury very large animals (we have very hard soils) and I always fear that another animal or a future homeowner may dig them up.

how much does it ussually cost to cremate a pet?

my cat died recently, and im pretty much sure my vet stiffed me on the charges. I didnt get any fancy urn or anything.
whats the ussual cost for anyone whos done this?

Cremations for cats at our clinic depend on whether or not the owner wants the ashes – around $50 without, and around $80 if they want them back.

Can you be haunted by a deceased pet?

My dog passed away two years ago. Now my two new pets stare at his urn for hours. They bark, growl and hiss. Not to mention I still swear I hear him bark sometimes and even catch glimpses of him in the house. Am I nuts or do I just really miss him?

It is totally possible for a past pet to stay with you. My dog passed 7 years ago, and she’s still around. I see her, hear her, and so does the dog I have now. My bf dog just passed in october and he’s around now, too. You’re not nuts.

What did you do when your pet died?

I have opened up a pet cemetery for cremated remains aprox 2 acres of my 10 acre property. I am wondering if you would ever consider burying your pets cremains. I did only because we almost had an accident and I am sure people are worried about the possibility of accidents or lost urns or containers. the cost is well below the average for a plot. $175…seniors $100….military $135.
But so far people just want to bury their pet wrapped in a blanket…and I cant have that..the area has coyotes and foxes that may dig them up.
Ideas commments or what ever appreciated.
Burying in the backyard is OK but what happens if you move or you die, heaven forbid, what happens to the remains then?

My family’s dog is buried in our backyard. We live in the country and there are no restrictions in that area. I do think that pet cemeteries are a great idea, though. As you have stated, people move, etc. and it’s nice to have a place where you know that you can always visit your beloved pet. I’m not sure how to get around the blanket thing, other than some type of box. Body bags would probably work, too, but I doubt that many owners would go along with that…especially if they actually see it.
It’s your property, so you could make whatever regulations that you see fit. Perhaps if you clearly explained your reasoning, the owners would be more understanding. I would not want wildlife digging up my pet and possibly dragging it off someplace.

My dog just died of accident. and what a day to die on. Christmas, I would like to see if any of you now where i can customise or buy a pet urn with like the name and the date and stuff. If you don’t know what a urn is it is one of those memorial stones. Please help me!

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog, it’s hard to loose them anytime never mind Christmas Day.

I presume you’re having your dog cremated as you want an urn. The crematorium will put your dog’s ashes in an urn with the dog’s name on it.
